The biggest problem of this release is not even the degrain, but the warpsharp and contrast/saturation boost. Colors and luminance were crushed and fine detail completely destroyed by the warpsharp. The sun disappears in the horizon on episode 2 and 12, blacks in episode 10 and 22 are completely crushed. Some Kanjis and background texts are unreadable, eyelashes and Kaji's beard disappeared in several shots. Of course the degrain is also ridiculously aggressive and destroys all detail. In episode 22 you can't even see that is raining in some shots due to that. I have made a collection of SS to illustrate how absurdly this is for later. If you really want a completely degrained and "cleaned" version that doesn't completely ruins the original content, Fussoir is the release to go, but I find it silly that only the 1080p version survived the transition to the new website. The 720p made much more sense. Unfortunately it can't be found anywhere. You can still find, however, the 720p HEVC version in some obscure LA sites. If a small filesize is the main concern, than I recommend getting my upcoming 720p HEVC soon™. It has around 400-500mbs per episode, very subtle degrain just to avoid smudging from bitstarving. and all the gooddies of subs and color corrections of my main 1080p release found here: https://nyaa.si/view/831686 You can download episode 1-20 in my mega folder I shared above. I'll release episodes 21-26 here pretty soon. @Deago ZZA recommended by you is worse than Fussoir’s 720p version. The “anonymous raw” is OK but also worse than my full 1080p release, beats me why someone would get that instead unless they really didn’t want the color corrections. Erai raws has plenty of seeds and subs but is missing the DC and is worse than anonymous raw. SAIO has an excessively aggressive DNR smudging too much detail, but is not near as bad as this version. Prof and CBM despite being twice the size of my 720p HEVC have less detail retention, this is due to unoptimized grain treatment. 2D4U is pretty good but has degraining artifacts on episode 19-23 and those never received a v2. It also has less grain preservation. The only release that preserves more grain than mine used to be Yurasyk’s, which was reused in here: https://nyaa.si/view/886718 But the size per episode is just ludicrous and has no seeders. In any regard, if you are not preserving gain, it isn’t worth it to encode the series in 1080p as the 16mm film master is pretty soft and hasn’t enough resolution anyway. TL:DR Get either my 1080 or 720p version for best size to quality ratio, or Fussoir’s 720p if you dislike grain or want the absolute smallest filesize possible. I’ll provide SS comparing most of these soon™.

SoulTaker Biggest issue of this release is not the noise removal, it is the cancer warpsharp filter and blow up colors. IF you want the best noise removal version you should get fussoir's version instead. Also, if you don't sse how all detail and original art is destroyed in this release, I suggest getting new prescription glasses.

@Deago @sephirotic Stop with the bullshit "purism". We are here to enjoy some anime without destroying our eyes with the *original grain* and *artwork*. In spite of being skeptical at first, I have to say the filter is actually good and makes it look cleaner and fresh. So, unless someone just can't get over nostalgia and old times, this torrent should work really fine for them.

@jarrific Mate, you're talking out your ass. If you want a release with less grain just grab Fussoir's—just as sephirotic suggested. It's not "purism" when this release actively damages the show's presentation. Any scene with fine details has had said details absolutely obliterated. Their Nadia release has the exact same problems, so filtered that you can't even make-out the show's karaoke lyrics any more.

after watching both recent releases: I would say people who have "sharpening" and "motion enhancement" settings on their TV or media center enabled, definitely the 4K/60Hz crowd, will definitely enjoy this. It looks absolutely fresh. Like.. made by netflix in 2020. Sound is amazing, too. People who can't handle those filters should probably stick to sephirotic or anonymous releases (I am having an 'uncally valley' feeling here, thats how good the filtering is). The loss of some details is noticable. but then.. the rest looks incredible so it evens out.) I am keeping both.. for reasons. I would call this a remaster, if anything.
