**- 540p -** Audio Track 1 (Default): English 2.0 FLAC Audio Track 2: Japanese 2.0 FLAC Subtitle Track 1 (Default): English Signs & Songs (.ASS) Subtitle Track 2: English Dialogue [MTBB modified] (.ASS) Dual-audio remux featuring my own 540p encode and a slightly modified version of MTBB's subtitles. I replaced the ED translation with my own kfx and changed the 'Default-alt' style a tiny bit. Other than that, it's pretty much untouched. For the encode I decided to downscale the BD to 540p since it's an SD upscale. Doing 1080p or even 720p would've been largely pointless as there's no detail beyond the native resolution. And since the BD looks pretty bad (lots of static noise and washed out details in dark scenes), upscaling it again wouldn't have helped much either. For episodes 14-16 I used Coalgirls' subtitles as a base and restyled everything to match MTBB. Typesetting and ED stuff was replaced as well. **Small patch for ep12 can be found [here](http://www.mediafire.com/file/bfeqiz1cy5oa8vv/%255BSCY%255D_Baccano%2521_-_12_%2528BD_540p_Hi10_FLAC%2529_%255BPatch%255D_%255B78489536%255D.zip/file).** Enjoy!

How is this 12.1 gigs for 5.40p quality?
@DaykoZombii The audio takes up roughly 4GB on it's own. Besides resolution doesn't equate quality, nor should an encoder try to force a specific file size unto their encodes. Scyrous encoded this at CRF13 and as he pointed out in the description, Baccano has a lot of static noise. Compressing too much would mess with that and lead to the quality issues.

@DaykoZombii Pretty much what Koby said. Lower resolution encodes tend to require a higher bitrate compared to 1080p, relatively speaking of course. I was still seeing macroblocking and artifacting during motion at CRF 13.5-14.
Thank you. Can I request anime here?

@Anay I rarely ever take requests, but go ahead.
Thank you. Im requesting Kemeko Deluxe BD 720p. https://myanimelist.net/anime/3464/Kemeko_Deluxe
As someone who owns the DVD boxset already I'm a bit curious why you'd take an upscaled BD and downscale it to approximately DVD resolution. Does this give you higher quality than an equivalently sized DVD rip would? Something else I'm curious to compare once I've downloaded a sample ep from your version is the dark scenes. Even with straight iso rips the details already seemed a bit washed out, and something that jumps out the most (when comparing to a different BD rip I downloaded) is everything has been made just a liiiiiiitle bit darker overall and the colours a bit more on the warm saturated side (especially with skin tone). Guess I'm just debating which version to stick with :/

@dunshirk Because the Blu-Ray is a better source than the DVD. And encoding a show at 1080p when the source looks pretty bad and the show was animated at SD resolution is pointless. Hence I decided to downscale is to 540p, as there's not much to gain beyond that point (definitely not detail). Pretty much any BD encode for this show should look better than a DVDrip. You are right though, details are already very washed out. The thick layer of static noise doesn't help either. It's a pretty terrible source, but it's still the best available. I didn't touch the contrast, colors or brightness in any way. Keep in mind that whichever encode you compared mine to might have encoded it from a different/older BD or DVD source. From the top of my head I know Coalgirls is one of those groups.
@Scyrous Thanks for the clarification. Indeed, there isn't much difference between your 540p and the 1080p I found (I dunno what the source for this version was, but it was the only one aside from yours that didn't completely blur the dark scenes). After some series nitpicking I'd say that some of the linework is ever so slightly sharper for the 1080p version but the noise/grain has this nasty pixelated look which more than overshadowed that. I guess the lower resolution helps smooth out some of the harshness of the noise? Whatever the reason I think I'll stick with yours. Thanks a lot. And here's the 1080p version I compared it with if anyone is curious: https://nyaa.si/view/421902
@dunshirk Thank you for the comparison. I'm constantly debating which version of a show to invest my time in; I often download multiple copies of an EP1 to evaluate. You have saved me that time overhead for this show. :)
