@Kirion Thanks! Great! But the aspect ratio is wrong, 1.5 instead of 1.78 (16:9). No, problem, easily adjusted in player, but, if you re-upload, or so...
Yeah, I'm glad there's a BD rip that has all 52 episodes, but the subtitles on this version are just terrible. They almost feel like HK subs.
For example in episode four, when Dr. Ochanomizu is SUPPOSED to be saying "mothers can be scary, but its only because they love and want to protect their children..." these subs translate it as "mothers get angry because their children are so lovely!"
I'm currently doing an alternate set of subtitles for this set. One problem is that my Japanese is minimal, so right now I'm basically just editing this torrent's subtitles so they read like they were written by a native English speaker.
Jisp, that sounds great. 👍 Will you upload your edited subs here, eventually? Or, if not, maybe you could mail them to me, when done? ❤️

I've only done up to episode four so far, and to be honest I'm not confident... I don't actually speak Japanese, I've just been re-wording the subs so they're not blatantly HK quality. Particularly for episode 2--for every other episode, there's the US Manga DVD to use as a reference if I'm ever unsure of something, but episode 2 was skipped on that DVD (the Australian Madman release has a subbed ep2 but I don't have that DVD). So basically, for that episode, I have to just hope I'm not making an existing problem worse.
Progress has been slow because of real life, but maybe we could make this a crowd project?
I'd love to do a similar thing, BTW, for other Osamu Tezuka anime like the 1989 Jungle Emperor (which DOES have subs for every episode, but they're by a group called Viki, whose subs are only slightly better than HK) or Don Dracula (same deal). But if I'm having trouble making it through a single anime, then I have no business taking on multiple projects.
Wow these meme denoise filters really fuck up the line-work in the art don't they. Does nobody else see it? Look at Astro Boy's chin in the first picture, just under his mouth. It looks like Tezuka's pen was running out of ink.
