Did you know Takahata's '79 classic Akage no Anne had an English dub? Yes, indeed - a South African production that apparently only aired in the Philippines and, decades later, Japan. And it is a great dub - in my opinion considerably better than the original, and I would only say that about perhaps one or two other anime in existence. So what better way to celebrate Anne's 40th anne-ime anne-iversary than downloading my release! ![test0](https://i.imgur.com/e7meAqI.png) ------ ~ Nerd Corner ~ Welcome to Erik's one-episode Anne release. This was a doozy, and mostly a proof-of-concept since I do not have the time to do 50 episodes of this, unfortunately. Dealing with the 23.976 -> 25 FPS nonsense was bad enough, but framerate conversion alone wasn't enough to sync everything up properly since the dubbing company had (wisely) shaved several frames off of the start of some scenes to better match the voices with lip movement. Unfortunately, these two things make a dual-audio release a pipe dream. Encoding novice that I am, I gave up on the prospect of editing these transition frames with a CLI program and just (reluctantly) chucked it in Premiere to cut up manually. This resulted in the encode having some minor visual artifacting. But with the excellent English dub and great BD quality, I still think this is the best way to watch the first episode of Anne. And if you think you can do better - PLEASE DO - I would love nothing more than to see all 50 episodes in English, BD quality, sitting in a torrent for me to download tomorrow. Additionally, I had some fun retranslating the wonderful OP song upon seeing Silver-Zero's rather drab lyrics (see pictures). I made the syllables line up such that you can sing along to the original song with the English lyrics! That's something I always love to do with song translations. ![test1](https://i.imgur.com/J4FcAdZ.png) ![test2](https://i.imgur.com/i92SYOm.png) Odds and ends: 1. This is not a remake, it is encoded from the BDMV. 2. I changed the karaoke style to not have borders in order to match the original text better. 3. Silver-Zero didn't bother translating the ED so I didn't either, though I would if I were ever to do a full series release. 4. Perhaps you already noticed, but the CRC is 79DECADE, to commemorate 4 decades since the original '79 airing of Akage no Anne. 5. If you are interested in taking up the mantle of making an English BD release and want some idea of where to start, please post in the comments. Neat though that size is inflated lmao

True lol, sorry. I didn't know what settings to go with in Premiere so I just went for around half the BD size to make sure it didn't have significant quality loss. If this were a proper encode I'd probably try to get it to like 1ish gig an episode.
WOW That is a good dub! Any chance you could upload a torrent of it?
Wynaut edit the audio instead? That would seem much simpler.

Editing the audio would help in creation of a dual audio track.

@OreIdo: the dub (with bad-quality video but good audio) is available at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaW_NSM_5c1KEBESYe1Vl6dPGcl5UM3nj. I currently have no plans to finish the other 49 episodes any time soon. If no one else bothers I might come back and finish the rest of the series in 15-20 years. @junh1024, @H94: Unlike speeding up 24 FPS video to 25 FPS which is nearly imperceptible, a 4% change in audio is quite noticeable and also produces a lower-quality sound. If someone were able to edit the English audio to be slightly slower but still sound good for use with the existing releases, that would be amazing, but I have my doubts that that is feasible.
>also produces a lower-quality sound Yes, but (HQ) controllable digital pitch - time shifters have existed for years now. Even premiere has one. (change the speed then apply the PitchShifter FX) OR Try https://www.rubberbandaudio.com/
Thanks, didn't know this was dubbed in English. There was also a Kaiketsu Zorro TV Series DVD (Ep. 1 + TV Movie) released in South Africa that I bought on eBay. The Europeans who made these dubs in SA didn't know they'd become so cherished.
I was actually thinking about ripping the audio off of youtube and muxing it in with the BDs but from what you said in the description, it might be more difficult than I thought :\
This same company also dubbed Heidi which aired in Philippines and India. That however is nowhere to be found.
You inspired me to edit every episode almost completely frame by frame to match the original dub. It's the only way I can do it. I've only finished episode one and the rest will take a lot of time but I love this series and its English voice actors enough to do it. I'll be uploading them here so you guys can check them out: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC82rHVgZdibLBrHfzy8Jp9A and I will also be uploading them to another site like MEGA since YouTube affects video quality but that will be at a later point, likely when I am finished editing every episode. Wish me luck. Also I'm no translator so I have to say that I adore what you did with the OP lyrics. If I could download this I would have included your OP.

@SmugExtension I read your comment on my MAL profile. I must make you (and any other user reading this) aware that there is a full release now that has it in English in BD quality! https://nyaa.si/view/1269262 It accomplishes this through audio editing rather than video editing, which I wasn't sure about the feasibility of but that user made it work, which is a better solution since it leaves the JP BD video intact. Meaning, if you are reading this, there is no reason to download this one-episode release unless you want to watch my OP translation (which, I will say with no small amount of self-satisfaction, is excellent). I am sorry I wasn't able to let you know faster before you spent your time on the first few episodes. Thank you for your flattery about the OP. I have started reseeding this file in case you still want to download it, as well as uploaded the sub file only here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ncnQJ8Rnk2VjxY_gqANnk4eXefzghHev/view?usp=sharing Here are my English lyrics: Listen to it, can't you hear? It's music to my ears In the distance, the faintly ringing hoofbeats Weaving through the gentle hills I know that they'll come for me I know they'll come for me someday Oh, won't someone... Won't someone please come by and whisk me away We'll ride through The flower-dappled way We'll wander whence the west winds came Won't you come take me away? I know that you will someday
