Everything PPP-Raw releases is from laserdisc source. At the time of ripping, no DVD or Bluray souce is known to exist.
Domesday Edition:
This was captured using a Domesday Duplicator. You can read all about the Domeday Duplicator project at https://www.domesday86.com/?page_id=978.
Project notes:
According to my original release notes, this was my very first capture effort. I didn’t put down a date, looks like early 2014? In any event, I most definitely did not do it correctly. I captured at the wrong IRE, I didn’t know the difference between deinterlacing and IVTC, so I saved at the wrong framerate, I didn’t have my “go-to” system down yet. Gotta start somewhere though, I guess.
Back then I had some ideas that I’d subtitle everything I captured, but that didn’t really work out. Too much work, and I have too many discs to capture. I eventually decided to phase out PPP-Sub in favor of PPP-Raw.
Its a good thing I started here, because the mastering on this disc is exemplary. No jitter, clear and sharp (somewhat overly-sharp, in fact, as some haloing has set it). There’s some minor framing issues in the middle of the first side of the disc, that’s about it.
So: I have included two versions of a script. One by PPP, and one by Domo-PPP. I have NO idea who the hell “Domo” is. They had nothing to do with me, and had no contact with me that I am aware of. And that’s okay. So far as I’m concerned y’all can do what you like with both scripts. The scripts are incomplete – no endtheme translation, and some of the lines are awkward. Domo’s version subtitles all “utterances,” like standalone “Um”s and “ah”s “oh”s, which I commented out – those sounds are their own meaning, they don’t need to be subtitled. But you do you.
As to the show itself? It was directed by Yuji Moriyama, who was one of the writers for Project A-ko. Its very good, in fact its main flaw is that its too short, and could have used additional fleshing out in parts.
This was captured using the Domesday Duplicator, and right now the decoding software doesn’t have the best audio support, so you may want to sync one of the scripts to the new video and use that as a signpost to apply the audio from the conventionally captured unfiltered DVD conversion I have included.
This was one of two projects I did while taking a break from working on the 1969 version of Moomin. At the time of the release of Exper Zenon I have taken Moomin 1-12 offline, as I made a terrible mistake and saved it at the wrong framerate, and I have deleted my workfiles, so I will have to start all over again. Look for the return of that soon.
