[Legend of the Galactic Heroes](https://myanimelist.net/anime/820/Ginga_Eiyuu_Densetsu)
Encode: https://nyaa.si/view/353599
This release uses Sentai's official script. Most of my modifications to the script came in the form of fixed typos.
You may notice a big difference between episodes 1-5 and the ones that come after. This is due to my hubris of thinking that I could do a "real" fansub release of this 110-episode show and then giving up after just 5 episodes.
#### **IF YOU ARE WATCHING THIS SHOW FOR THE FIRST TIME, DO NOT WATCH THE EPISODE PREVIEWS.**
Seriously, don't!
>so, how does yours compare to D-YFI’s, which uses CA’ script !?
This release's script is a much more accurate translation than CA's for episodes 01-26. I don't know how the two releases stack up after that.
This over https://myanimelist.net/anime/31433/Ginga_Eiyuu_Densetsu__Die_Neue_These_-_Kaikou ? I think this is the one anyways the latter didn't keep me interested past ep 6.
Thanks for the subs. Too bad the encodes look pretty terrible. Also what happened to the frame rate (mode)? Some episodes run at 24 fps cfr while others run at 24000/1001 fps cfr, 23976/1000 fps cfr or even 24,115 fps vfr.

I believe at least some of the BD discs were originally 60i, so I would not be surprised if VFR was sometimes necessary. At any rate, I didn't notice any framerate problems (skipping) or sync problems while watching. And yes, it's too bad that the source was awful for the first half of the show.
At some point, I found >1GB encodes of the early episodes and did quality comparisons. It was hilarious how useless the extra filesize was.

I wish someone told me this before I watched the show years ago. ;_;
Ahh the good old spoilery previews.
Literally Gundam 0079 did this. They reveal a death of a character even before the episode airs.
WTF.
Thanks for this!
About the framerate, from what "i've eard". Some CGI scenes are done directly at 29.97fps, when the others parts are on standard cells/film. The episodes are at 29.97fps, with most of the parts are 29.97 fps NTSC telecine, but, some parts are "pure" progressive 29.97fps. So, you can't reverse telecine the episodes at 23.976fps because of the pure 29.97fps parts.
So, either you left the whole episode at 29.97fps, either you do VFR, reverting telecine to 23.976fps on the film parts, and staying on 29.97fps on the CGI parts.
It would have been nice to know this isn't 8bit AVC The listing has nothing in it which has always meant 8bit AVC. Otherwise it should indicate if it's 10bit or 12bit.
You might try encoding a file the standard way but use 60fps instead of 24fps. Then compare it to a 10bit of same file. I'm sure you will be surprised. Everyone that hasn't tried it should. And if you then wonder why h10 was ever used. Ask yourself who stands to gain from messing up Anime sharing will give the answer
Thanks for this mega share. it'll take a while to get it back to standard but worth the work.
I was really hyped about this subtitle, but this version is just as bad if not worst than CA's. Yeah, the words are more accurate but only in a mirror translating way. CA has more meaningful sentence out of less correct word.
Also, if you want to break a line you can use /N. No need to make new line for everything.
I appreciate the high-quality release. However, I'm a bit curious as to your (and I suppose Sentai's, although your description does say you did the script for episodes 1-5) reasoning for referring to the highest rank in the Imperial Navy as "imperial marshal"; it's strange to see what should be strictly a ground forces rank appear in the naval chain of command. "Fleet Admiral," or "Grand Admiral" if you want to keep a Germanic theme would be more appropriate.
I was wondering if the blu-ray was 720p since the only English 1080p torrent was ZetaRebel's Web-DL https://nyaa.si/view/1239544. However, it looks like there are 1080p blu-ray French and raw torrents. ZetaRebel says they're planning to do a Blu-Ray encode, and hopefully that will be 1080p, but maybe I'll just watch this if I can't wait however long that takes.
> Even this encode is no better than the old CA DVD release from 2011, often worse. Should have just stuck with DVDs and put the better subs on.
Except for CA's combing... wrong framerate (no VFR)... less detail... It's not hard to see that the BDs are better immediately, just look at the opening shot of the galaxy.
Note: episode 40 `Default` style has outline `3.40` instead of `2.40` like the rest. Fixed [here](https://kitsunekko.net/subtitles/Ginga%20Eiyuu%20Densetsu/[MTBB]%20Legend%20of%20the%20Galactic%20Heroes%20-%20040%20[DA04E3BD]_track3_[und].ass).
