1. Source had a lot of banding and other color issues and took a while to filter them out. Didn't want my favourite shows to get affected by such issues so i decided to work on it. Will upload the other seasons in a while along with all the lossless soundtracks as well.
2. Added japanese episode names ( In english ) along with english translations for karuta fans.
Please seed and enjoy the release!!!.
Note: My final release of Chihayafuru will include all 3 seasons and all 3 live action movies including lossless OST's and other extra live action stuff.

- outdated subtitles (i changed a decent amount for the BD version, half of which isn't released yet, so your release will become even more pointless when i do shortly)
- HEVC
- CBR
- 1080p when the anime is mastered at 720p
- unencoded audio (even FLAC would save considerable space)
- added japanese for no reason
- i don't understand the filenames. why does it use CR's translations of the poems when they're not used in the subs? isn't that needlessly confusing?
1. I did what i could and would have updated it after you did your 2nd release. First 12 episodes are from your BD release anyways.
2. I dont see anything wrong with it. If you can show me a clear loss detail between my detail and the BD, ill change it but hevc did way better retention for me.
3. At this bitrate its not going to matter anyways ( You do realise this is almost 15 MBps in x264 terms right? )
4. Is this affecting the quality in anyway? The reverse would have been true tho. ( The BD was released in 1080p which is why the encode is too )
5. Yes, this is more for collection purposes( There are flac releases everywhere and if you're downloading 1.5GB/ep, you are not that choosy about space anyways)
6. Again, the japanese part felt natural for the episode title more than the english one considering the premise thats why i added english too
7. I tried using the original translation for this but some of them did not fit the no of words well. Crunchyroll translations did the job of making every poem start with the same number of identical words/syllables as other poems that they are similar to.For example, all 16 poems that start with "a-" in Japanese, start with "The" in English. All 6 poems that start with "ta-" start with "No," either as a word ("No more..") or syllable ("Nothing..") etc. Poems that share the same first few syllables (a-sa-bo-ra-ke-) also tend to share the same first 3-4 words (The hazed early..") before diverging
This was taken from a reddit where the guy explains why CR's translations are more suitable. This is the link https://www.reddit.com/r/chihayafuru/comments/b5kzcj/anime_chihayafuru_poem_translations_crunchyroll/
>I did what i could and would have updated it after you did your 2nd release. First 12 episodes are from your BD release anyways.
why not wait for all of it?
>I dont see anything wrong with it. If you can show me a clear loss detail between my detail and the BD, ill change it but hevc did way better retention for me.
h264 is still better for high-quality anime encodes from all testing i've seen
>At this bitrate its not going to matter anyways ( You do realise this is almost 15 MBps in x264 terms right? )
yes, it's overkill. also, you can't "convert" between the two.
>Is this affecting the quality in anyway? The reverse would have been true tho. ( The BD was released in 1080p which is why the encode is too )
well, your release is probably 2-3x larger than it needs to be since you didn't downscale to 720p.
>Yes, this is more for collection purposes( There are flac releases everywhere and if you’re downloading 1.5GB/ep, you are not that choosy about space anyways)
there is literally no benefit to PCM over FLAC. i'm not sure you understand lossless codecs if you think otherwise.
>Again, the japanese part felt natural for the episode title more than the english one considering the premise thats why i added english too
except no one watching will have any idea what it means???
>I tried using the original translation for this but some of them did not fit the no of words well. Crunchyroll translations did the job of making every poem start with the same number of identical words/syllables as other poems that they are similar to.
i'm sorry, but do you think our subs didn't do that too? my point is you could've copied the english episode titles from our subs, which actually match the meaning of the poems better than CR's translations.
@herkz about the last part, i completely forgot about your episode translations. Will update it in V2 once you release your part 2 of the BD .I know flac is lossless and no doubts about it, its just for a collection purpose. As for the downscaling part, i think its more about the bitrate for me. Didnt want to hold back on anything. If im right 8000kbps 720p probably looks the same as a 8000kbps 1080p as BD is 1080p so i didnt want any unnecessary downscaling.
As for the japanese translations, its for people who have watched it and like that poetic tone instead of the direct english translations for the episode title.
BTW, is it me or your episode titles are the same as the wikipedia titles for the episodes? Cant be a coincidence.
>BTW, is it me or your episode titles are the same as the wikipedia titles for the episodes? Cant be a coincidence.
someone copied our titles over to wikipedia, i assume since the translation matches the part of the poem better than CR. for some of the episodes CR just picked the first line because the japanese used was the first line, even if the meaning doesn't match.
for instance, consider episode 1. the japanese used in the first of 5 lines of one of the poems. CR just pasted in the first line of their translation for that poem "May it be that I find." however, the meaning of the japanese is "On a summer night," which obviously is way different. sadly, this poem has never appeared in full in the anime, so there's no way to know what CR's translation for it is, but i assume "summer night" appears in it at some point. why did they just put the first line when the meaning is clearly more important? probably laziness.
@ShadowVlican Download it, have a look and if you find some error, let me know. My encode has a pretty high bitrate that too in x265 10 bit level 5.1 and PCM audio is for collection purposes. You can encode it to flac if you wish to.
