If you are a noise/grain lover or don’t mind it, you have already several releases. But, if you are like me, and noise/grain hurt you as much as rubbing sand in your eyes, this release may interest you. All process were done directly from the japanese Blu-Ray. Video is denoised. Subtitles are from **Kagura** (i think...), the ones with punctuation fix. Original: ![](http://jpsdr.free.fr/XBMC/UruseiYatsura-1b.jpg "") Full size [here](http://jpsdr.free.fr/XBMC/UruseiYatsura-1a.jpg). This release : ![](http://jpsdr.free.fr/XBMC/UruseiYatsura-2b.jpg "") Full size [here](http://jpsdr.free.fr/XBMC/UruseiYatsura-2a.jpg). TV serie, for now... **Edit** : F*** !!!! I forgot to CRC the files, sorry... **Edit2** : For information, the *SP1-SP2* where on Disc 4, with episodes 37 to 44, the m2ts file was between the 42 and 43. I don't know exactly when they should be viewed, my best guess according these informations is between 42 and 43.

Excellent work, relentless as always. Are you going to make the films?! A doubt, why from 1 to 46 are in 2 in 1?
@SasukeUC: The first 46 episodes were aired that way. After that they went with the "per episode "system"" as most Anime in that time. The first 46 episode are haf-length ones, maybe that's a reason too, due the the used time-locks available?

@SasukeUC: I wrote "TV serie, for now...", interpret as you wish... ^_^
@Moses35i: I understand. Thanks for the info. ^_^
could you please post the subtitle files.
If you ever do a release for the movies, I would suggest the DVD rips, specifically this release: https://nyaa.si/view/972837 Because they preserve the original 4:3 aspect ratios, free from any cropping.

You can get the subtitles here : https://nyaa.si/view/778609 I don't work from DVDs, i didn't know the movies were original 4/3, it's a shame this kind of butchering !!! We should do the same to the people/editor who decided to make this. Cut him one feet on his top and his bottom, i'm sure he will feel it and appreciate it !!! I hate when they do this ! I'm pissed off now ! :( It seems at least movie 2 is in original format, so this one, i'll do. The others, probably nevertheless.
@jpsdr Thank you for this! I first saw scattered episodes of this back in 1988, when I was introduced to anime in grad school; it's had a special place in my heart ever since. @JanusT Thanks for that link!
@Weasalopes I assume it's your profile picture. Damn I hope I'll be as fearless to declare my interest as you are in a couple of years...
Maybe it's because i use denoiser everyday, but my eyes are suffering, not about the quality of the denoising that I can live with, but every frame of every new scene is not denoised, so for a fraction of a second you see the first frame not denoised. I'm using for myself Neat Video, who is the best denoiser as you know. Don't know what you have done to the settings

The radius of the temporal part of the filter is the only thing i can think of, i've set it to 3.If i remember the default is 2, putting to 3 can only improve filtering result in scene change. Also i'm always using data from the 1rst frame of a scene change to build the noise profile (or manualy tune) because i've noticed that the noise level is always higher in the first frame of a scene change. And you can have this effect if you build the noise profile from a frame were noise is lower, but i didn't notice such a thing. Odd...

jpsdr (uploader)

User
Took randomly 2 episodes and checked a few scene change, didn't notice any issue or first frame not denoised.
Don't forget to seed
I have always felt that old anime always had texture to it and it felt nice. You will notice that now even new animes are doing this on purpose. This graininess is different from the noise of low resolution, bad conversion, blockiness, etc.
The denoising has also gotten rid of the subtle color changes (subtle shadows) on the face that give it a 3d look. After denoising they are more 2d and have a plastic like feeling. I tried a lower res 720p version https://nyaa.si/view/933260 and this when viewing felt more real. Since this is such a long series, I would recommend that you try both this and that to see which feels better. In the example image that you have given above it feels that denoising is good, but when practically seeing a running anime, it feels different.

The issue with old animes is that the film changes, ages, and the result is not anymore the same than the first airing decades ago. One of the purpose of my denoising is to get back the youth of the film. Also, i've friends who are cells collectors, and so i've seen what a cell over a background directly provide, before being shooted and put on film. This is personnaly what i want to see, this is another purpose of my denoising. What my purpose is NOT, is to make old like new. I'm doing things for me, and just share for those who may be interested. Somes like me don't like noise, somes are not bothered with, or even "like" it. It's a matter of taste. You're right about the try and choice. Choice is important, with this, you have. So yes, just get one or two episodes first, try, check, compare, and choose the one more to your linking.
Denoising sucks.
Sts115 < YOU suck! :-P
Denoising wipes out detail, no matter what you do.
@Sts115 While what you say is most certainly true, it doesn't matter as much if the denoise job is expertly done to the point that any detail loss is very minor. I have downloaded numerous JPSDR encodes and compared them to the likes of THORA and REVO, and I can wholeheartedly say that this guy knows what he's doing. The majority of lossless screen comparisons that I have done between his denoised releases and releases that retain most of the noise and grain really makes me feel like I'm wasting drive space by keeping the bigger grain/noise filled encodes around. That's how on par most of them are. I'm not one to call bad quality just because I see a line in the background detail that is very slightly less detailed compared to its grainy counterpart though.
Still, denoising will wipe out detail.
StS115: Can you even read? When done *properly*, it practically won't. You might get the *illusion* of more detail with grain (the reason why some video games use it) but there's no tangible loss. Of course, 90% of denoised videos do it wrong and these indeed lose detail, but that's not the case with JPSDR encodes (well, most of them anyway). And if you're so anal about the potential 0,01% loss in detail, why are even downloading encodes? Pure BDMV ISO should be the only way for you, baby! But let me warn you, even these are not as pristine as the master tapes... ;P
Downloaded this back in June, but forgot to say my deepest thank you. This anime became my favorite anime of all time with Re:Zero and Great Teacher Onizuka! Thank you for uploading it in 1080p! c:
WHY 218 eps? Everywhere it says 195 eps!
I see now why... "That's just how Kagura numbered the first 23 episodes (1-46 in the file names). one episode, are two half length stories. 218-(46/2) = 195." BAKA kagura, BAKA!
Thanks. But I hope you could reupload this as x265. It would be 15-20GB then.

For the same quality, between x264 and x265 you can expect a factor 2 in size. If you have more, you just don't have the same quality. Also, DTS-HD 2.0 audio is around 100Mb/file. With 195 files, only the audio will result in 15-20GB... The estimation you provided is totaly wrong, if you expect to have with 15-20GB the 195 files with the exact same quality i provided by using x265. The size factor (for the same quality) being only 2, i rather stay with x264, as i know it better. About x265 : http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1689646#post1689646 http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1691179#post1691179
Anime should not be denoised. :)

User
People should have the choice, between denoised or not denoised. I offer the "denoised" choice, a lot of others releases offer the "not denoised" choice, and like this, everyone can be happy... ^_^
Cool release, thanks!
Can you make x265 hevc version??

Thanks jpsdr! One of my favorite encoders to date. :)

You did a great job with this, well done, really. 👍 I have compared, like 10 episodes, with those of my old version from like 10 years ago, on a big screen, and decided in favor of yours. ❤️ Also your reasoning above, I do agree with. (As well as your humble replies to some rather categorical, not say rude, comments.) 😊
Downloaded Episode 63....instead, the episode that showed was number 40.
Film grain is not "noise." Anime shot on film is not supposed to look like digital anime. 153 gigs of anime with the detail and soul sucked out of it is a quite simply a botched release.

Yes, grain is not noise, this is why i put the 2 words in the description. And yes, indeed, it should look like a painted background with a cell on it, not a digital. I've seen, from a friend collector of cells, what a painted backgroud with a cell on it looks like. And it doesn't look like an old deteriorated grained film. My purpose is not to make look like digital anime, but look like a painted background with a cell on it, like i've seen on the collection of my friend, and i think i've achieve that purpose. After, it's a matter of taste, you're totaly free to like grain, in that case, my release is not for you, and you'll find your happiness in others releases. No x265 HEVC.
