Un enorme torre bianca si staglia lontana oltre le nuvole, è la fonte di mille dibattiti e l’ispirazione per innumerevoli fantasie. Ha segnato un punto di svolta nel paese e ne simboleggia la divisione dopo la guerra: il nord è occupato dall'Unione mentre il Sud è in mano agli Stati Uniti. Due amici, Hiroki e Takuya, lavorano da tempo ad un aereo, il loro sogno è quello di avvicinarsi alla Torre per vedere finalmente cosa c'è oltre. A poco a poco, una misteriosa ragazza di nome Sayuri si unisce a loro ed insieme diventano un trio inseparabile. I due adolescenti promettono di portare la ragazza con loro per scoprire cosa ci sia oltre la Torre.
