[***Better encode available here***](https://nyaa.si/view/1387831) Video Source: [Xspitfire911](https://nyaa.si/view/1197567) Subs Source: [FroZen/Gao](https://nyaa.si/view/1360028) (Shifted +1s & retimed based on keyframes) Uploader Notes: **This should be the best release available.** I checked many encodes in an attempt to find a best and Xspitfire911 is by far the best source. The video is very transparent and retains pretty much all the grain present in the source BDMV. While bloated there realistically isn't a whole lot that can be done as the noise is 100% intentional and in my opinion a completely necessary piece to the atmosphere. There's a harsh drop in filesize on E14 this is however intentional as on the source BDMV that episode has a lot less noise compared to all the others. The subs were pulled from Gao's release. EruPii-Raws appears to have cut out 1.001s of black screen at the start of each episode. Both chapters and subs were offset by 24 frames to compensate for this. The timing on Gao's subs was initially pretty bad with very inconsistent timing on keyframes. I used prass' tpp and auto-retimed them to match keyframes. Gao's timing at the very least was still infinitely better than Judas who literally has over 8 frame gaps between keyframes vs Gao's 1 frame gaps. I also slightly reduced the sub scale as moving from 720p to 1080p video I noticed triple lines. I reduced the sub scale from 100% to 95% so the subs are ever so slightly smaller. As a minor change I also fixed Gao's annoying font spam. Each episode now only has the fonts it's script actually needs. well the encoders could probably save a lot of filesize by downscaling to the native resolution of 720p
" EruPii-Raws appears to have cut out 1.001s of black screen at the start of each episode." Yep, I don't want one second of black screen at the beginning of every episode in my encodes. ?
i thought everyone did that tbh

@herkz are you 100% sure it's native 720p? At least according to the getnative results and [anibin](https://anibin.blogspot.com/2010/04/rainbow-1.html) it seems like descaling would be too risky. Anibin claims, assuming google translate was accurate enough, that the grain makes it almost impossible to determine the native resolution. The getnative output also seems completely fucked. On an undenoised input it seems to suggest native 1080p but then on a denoised input (waifu2x level 2 denoise) it seems to be literally all over the place. While I don't think it's native 1080p I think descaling would be a bad call as it's pretty much impossible to determine the correct kernel. [Here's a link to the getnative graphs and screenshot used as a source.](https://lensdump.com/a/IupsF/sub) I tried using other screenshots and they all produce similar results.
Nobody said something about descaling...
yeah, you don't have to descale. you can just downscale with spline36 or whatever. and i doubt there's a single TV anime from 2010 that was made at 1080p. especially when you consider madhouse (the studio who made this anime) still make anime at 720p to this day.

Thanks for the info herkz. I'll probably get around to doing my own non-denoised and downscaled encodes of this then at some point.
For this project, because of the massive grain, I would agree that downscaling to 720p is almost necessary. You'll cut out a lot of "fake" detail that way and not a lot of real detail.

Currently sourced the blu-rays and am doing my own downscaled encodes. Current filesizes are hovering around 1.8~2gb. Should be similar in size to this release but without any denoising applied at all and should be pretty much 1 to 1 with a remux at 1/3 the filesize. Encodes speeds are at around 0.275x speed so looking at around 36 hours encode time. So expect another release of this in a few days.
its not that big :D personally i like to avoid downscaled upscales but the descaled stuff is fine. just feels like the quality will suffer for no reason
Thanks for this and will sure wait for your encode if you happen to do it.

New encode is up looks better and at a slightly smaller file size. https://nyaa.si/view/1387831
