Saiga Masaru has not had an easy life. Born as the bastard child of a powerful man, he and his mother lived in poverty until her death from illness. Taken by the Saiga family, he endured mistreatment at their hands until he was taken under the wing of his loving grandfather. But his grandfather told him that should anything happen to him, he should take a certain suitcase to a certain circus in a certain city, and find the one who would protect him, a woman named Shirogane. But being a child, he was unable to reach his destination before the people from the Saiga family found and tried to abduct him. Lucky for Masaru, a random act of kindness caught the attention of Kato Narumi, a street performer he met minutes before found. Narumi is a very strong man with a sense of justice, but can he protect young Masaru when his abductors turn out to not be human? And why is there a giant puppet in the suitcase given to Masaru by his late grandfather? Another great show adapted from a manga by Kazuhiro Fujita. This guy can do no wrong. I loved this show, but it does have flaws. Warning for the manga readers, this series is rushed. It got about as many episodes as Ushio & Tora did, but the manga had an extra 10 volumes. And given that Ushio & Tora was itself rushed.... Still, this show is worth your time. The characters are amazing. Kazuhiro knows how to do character development. And action. And a really cool plot. Seriously, the story is fantastic. It gripping, exciting and very emotional. The battles are cool too, but it's the characters that raise this series to a high level. Hell, even the antagonists are extremely well developed. Another thing this show (and Kazuhiro) does really well is redemption. Former antagonists can join the protagonists, but their past action are not forgotten nor forgiven. And a special mention for the true antagonist: the man who was cucked to death. This guy got cucked not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES. By technically the same woman. No wonder he wanted to destroy the world. Still, this was by far the most petty villain I've seen in a long time. As for the protagonists, Narumi is such a good guy. Like, the best boy ever. Masaru develops from a weak crybaby to being able to stand by Narumi's side. And Shirogane is like... the purest of the pure. You really want to see them all happy. Special mention for the sountrack: goddamn is it good. The source for this is the US BDs. Shoutout to npz for the BD Remux. You'll notice that there's no soft-subs for this. That's because Sentai went and fixed the god awful Amazon subs, so now the streaming subs are less then worthless.
