[GJM] Shiroi Suna no Aquatope - 06 [6FE7848A].mkv (600.8 MiB)
Thanks! Nice TS. One thing confused me though since I was watching CR to keep up with the weekly episodes.
For some reason GJM did not translate this in any of the episodes?

Its translated in the CR version though.

The characters in the show say this every episode but they themselves never explained what it means and since GJM never translated it how are viewers supposed to know what it means? If anyone in the show ever explained what it means then it would make some sense to leave it in romanji but nobody ever did.
@vikrant9760 The translator's logic behind this was because most viewers, even in the native language, would likely not recognize it. Okinawan Japanese is very different. This is supported by the fact that in (I believe) episode 2, that Fuuka struggles to say it without rehearsing it. It's not familiar to her as a Japanese mainlander.
>in (I believe) episode 2, that Fuuka struggles to say it without rehearsing it
Hmm I checked and she doesn't really struggle. Checked the first 3 episodes and I definitely did not see her rehersing.
It is what it is I guess. The TSer went to so much length to provide such meticulous TS for the sake of immersion but that one line is pretty immersion breaking so I wanted to point it out. Thanks anyways ;)
>conclusive evidence
Like I said I already checked the first three episodes and I still wouldn't go as far as to call it "struggling". She at most stammers on the initial word. Also, like I said I did not see her "reherse" anywhere. You just assumed that because she has it written on a paper?
If she was rehersing before she probably would have asked if she was saying it right or not during the rehersal rather than asking now.
>The characters in the show say this every episode but they themselves never explained what it means and since GJM never translated it how are viewers supposed to know what it means?
Point still remains though. How is the viewer gonna know whatever it means unless you translate it?
Again, it is what it is so no point in arguing I guess. If I don't like it I will just watch the official subs.
@vikrant9760 The point, in our translator's view, is that you aren't/weren't meant to know. A typical Japanese viewer wouldn't know either. It's an opinion, and you can take it or leave it, as you've said yourself.
ignore the brain dead jujutsu kaisen fan, if it's not translated then that's it.
also thanks
also ot prob has something to do with the characters "praying towards the shrine" the translator is prob treating it as some sort of spell.
@Interruptor Arguably, so can a non-Japanese viewer, then. vikrant's point is fair, but our staff on the show felt differently. It happens.
Regardless, the decision was made and it'll remain this way for at least the airing release. It's not to everyone's tastes, but when is anything we do ever universally liked? :')

Then what's the "logic" behind calling 'Pudding' in Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear something other then 'pudding' when they clearly say "pudding"?
@himeno Because "Purin (プリン)" is wasei-eigo. It doesn't literally mean "pudding". Been a while since looking at anything relating to that show, but assuming this is the word you're referring to.
