*I deleted the old, slow torrent and replaced it with this one. This one should work fine!*
Here are episodes 4 and 5 of Fuun Lion Maru, aka Storm Cloud Lion Maru, with full English subtitles.
The raws were ripped in 576p from the Portuguese ISOs. The fansubs have the original Japanese audio track in AAC and include soft subs. I won’t be making hardsubs for this series unless someone really needs them.
The subtitle script started out as dubtitles from the Portuguese dub, which were translated by Bycrosser back in 2004. SFX Japan/Kaiju held onto them for years until passing them to me. I re-timed Bycrosser’s script to my raws, edited his awful grammar, and corrected anything from the dubtitles that didn’t match the Japanese or wasn’t even close.
Episode 4, “Protect the Vulcanic Bomb,” features Hyoma/Black Jaguar coming into possession of a package that contains a formula and materials to make a highly potent explosive. He intends to take it and sell it, but the Mantle Clan wants it as well, and of course, Shishimaru/Lion Maru gets involved too. Hyoma’s transformation phrase gets adjusted from “Ninpo” to “Ready” in this episode for some reason, but other than that, this one’s a dynamite (sorry, couldn’t resist) ep. I’m also aware that the credits cut off early on the video; that is an error in the Portuguese DVD set, and there’s nothing I can do to fix it.
Episode 5, “Burning Water! Help Your Friends Escape,” features the Mantle Clan taking over a village that has a strange underground well of water that burns anything it touches. Enslaving the people, the Mantle goons decide to kidnap more folks and make them their slaves, which include Shinobu, Sankichi’s sister. Shishimaru/Lion Maru shows up to save Sankichi from some Mantle troops, and gets involved in the affair, which includes some neat pyrotechnics as Sankichi blows the labor camp to pieces. It’s a decent ep, but is kind-of a let-down after the fun of ep #4. There are also a lot of repeated phrases in this episode (run, hurry, go), so while it may look like I wasn’t doing my job, I really was; the Japanese dialogue just wasn’t that interesting this time.
I hope you enjoy this double feature of old-school toku, and be sure to seed for as long as you’re able!
