Here is a one-off release I decided to do: the first episode of Toei's 1976 racing/action anime, "Machine Hayabusa."
The raw came from the old torrent posted by Zero_fansubs.ru on Nyaa; it was encoded in x265 with AAC audio and ripped from the R2 DVD set. I did everything else, including giving it an all-new translation and throwing out what ARR attempted to do back in 2011.
If you've never seen this anime, it's worth watching at least once, because it acts as a kind-of spiritual successor to "Speed Racer," or "Mach Go Go." Both shows were directed & created by the same man, so you will see a lot of similarities in the car design, direction, and general plot. In "Hayabusa," a young race car driver by the name of Ken Hayabusa finds his father has invented a special racing machine (they are called machines in this anime, not cars), and after his brother is killed by the evil Black Shadow Team, Ken swears revenge and joins the Sayonji Racing Team, led by Dr. Sayonji (who looks like a Mexican revolutionary), who adapts the Hayabusa car technology and makes two other cars to help Ken in their struggle to bring back clean, wholesome racing, which has been destroyed by the villainous and dirty tactics of Black Shadow, who are led by the mysterious figure E. Moby Dick (it is not "E. Mobile Dick," as is commonly listed on anime info sites). Machine Hayabusa lasted 21 episodes before being cancelled, as there were just too many similarities to Speed Racer, and Speed's time in Japan had long past.
I hope you enjoy this glimpse into the days when car racing anime was all the rage in Japan, and be sure to seed for a while after you're done!
