Embedded audio commentary track in some episodes.
The image quality of the original source is acceptable while the main problem is that the lines feature aliasing and ringing caused by low-resolution upscaling and the background images show aliasing at native resolution. We used descaling and reconstruction, along with regular anti-aliasing and de-ringing for the lines. The original source has a very thick layer of noise, so there is basically no banding. On the premise of ensuring the style of the picture, we performed adaptive denoising to control the bit rate.

Die English-Language-Compilation-Groups AkihitoSubs, Anime Time und Cleo setzen bei ihren Encpdings eine zu starke Kompression ein, das Audio all derer ist ohnehin der reinste Highest-Compressed-Ohrenkrebs. VCB Studio reizt das effektive Encoding von HEVC in 10-Bit zu platzsparenden Dateien nicht aus, Die Dateien von Moozzi2 sind gleichgroß bei anachronistischem AVC in 8-Bit. Beatrice-Raws, ReinForce und Salender-Raws treiben es mit eben diesem veralteten Codec total auf die Spitze, 2 bis 3 GB pro Episode. Bei solchen Dateigrößen kann man sich gleich den Anime als Untouched-BDMV ziehen und erhält obendrein das absolute verlustfreie Original.

Who thinks that x265 is for decreasing file sizes without (big) quality loss has no idea how it works. You actually have to turn off many of the x265 implemented options. At the end you might save at best ~5% for the same / slightly better quality compared to x264. Sure, you can go for a smaller file size instead, but the results turn worse. The huge benefit with x265 is that is runs better and more effiecent with more cores / threads and resolutions beyond 1080p.

This's incorrect. Digitized videos are composed of vectors to be computed by shader units. (Insofar as the respective streaming processor supports native decoding and encoding (For example: Video Decode and Presentation API for Unix by NVIDIA, Video Decode Acceleration Framework by Microsoft, Advanced Media Framework by AMD), computationally intensive shader arrays can be dispensed with). The core scaling on the part of the computing unit results from the scheduler of the respective software from which the computation originates.
@KnSnaru I don't think that you get what I mean at all. The more threads you use (visible by "threads= / lookahead_threads=" inside the encoding settings) the more you degrade the video quality to a certain point. x264 is simply less efficient here, that's all. https://slow.pics/c/kvczgjxs (not my comparison) - the effect is less likely to occure with x265 and higher threads.Yes, this is an exteme example, because vbv limitation is involved. Nontheless, the quality degration still exists even without limits. It just makes more sense using x265, even when you don't want to achieve small file sizes.
@eXmendiC Wouldn't it be enough to set the deblocking filter to an aggressive profile and instead of blowing up the bitrate, provide more bits for the B, I and P frames? What're you actually using? MeGUI and AviSynth? Besides, you can get much more out of quantization if you filter out unnecessary artifacts that're ugly to the eye anyway. I know that this goes against the principle of some who seek the original image, but blur and noise particles only deteriorate an image uselessly and sometimes raise the bitrate enormously.

I don't get why a very strong deblock filter would help when there is no blocking, except for maybe destroying details and making the quality worse. I'm not into encoding anymore, but I've used CLI x264/x265 with vapoursynth like probably every decent encoder uses nowadays. Even when you consider stuff like removing all noise from the source etc., it won't change the outcome that x265 barely saves file size compared to x264, if you want to archive similar or better quality. My point is not that it's not possible saving file size by filtering (removing light noise, for example).
