--------
I noticed ARC's release (which is currently the best release for this movie) was lacking the Netflix dub in FLAC from the new USBD, so I decided to update it. I also updated the subtitles. The default track is an improved version of ARC's. ARC used Sephirotic's dialogue with Commie TS. I used Sephirotic's dialogue with Baws' improved Commie TS. The second track is Baws' edit, which is a combination of Sephirotic and Commie. I included Commie's script for anyone who prefers that and a Signs & Songs track from Baws, which is an improved version of Commie.
**PS**: If you're looking for an archival-quality release of the series to pair this archival-quality release of the movie with, I recommend [McBalls](https://nyaa.si/view/1455099). Though, it should be updated with dubs in FLAC from the new USBDs.
__Update__: ~~A new release is in the works. It'll be a joint project with Baws under [HachiRoku-Baws]. It will be all of Evangelion with TLCd Netflix merged with some of Sephirotic's script. ETA is 3-4 months.~~

It's actually my favourite sub group. Thanks for the comment, herkz!
I haven't decided which track to use yet myself. Sephirotic says you used an old translation that contained several mistranslations, is that true?
i don't think any other translations even existed when i subbed it. although from what i've seen he didn't really fix things either despite supposedly knowing japanese.
Baws helped me with this release. Aren't you and him gonna do the Netflix/Sephirotic edit under [Arid-Baws]? Or is that cancelled?
Also, I have both uni and work currently, so I don't have enough time to do it myself.
That's awesome, maybe you should work with him!
We never got a TLC and I never did anything past the first four episodes, I'm not involved in the project anymore.
don't get editors to fuck shit up more just actually get anyone to tlc
why even sub old shit if you aren't gonna get a tlc. people already tried guessing
I will just guess better with my 2022 knowledge govna
(That was also a reason I just walked away from the project)
The four episodes I edited are probably bad in retrospect anyways
I intentionally avoided the netflix dub because netflix also used an inaccurate english script for the main show's dub that Gainax rejected way back in the 90s; so anything of that quality is about as useful as including a swahili dub lol

@Arcus_Deer
You mean for the whole series or just the movie? There's nothing wrong with the Netflix dub for the series as far as I know. I'm not sure how they could've rejected it back in the 90s, as it's a new script VSI came up with recently for Netflix. Should it not have been included in Baws' mux for the series either?
Also, where did you source the FLAC for the ADV dub? It was only available in lossy formats before the new USBDs got out.
Also also, this includes more and better subtitle options.
@wafflescake00, you're welcome!
Just to clarify some things people seem to keep getting wrong, the subtitles on the Netflix release and their modified versions on the recent GKIDS/Anime Limited Blu-Ray are from Khara themselves and their in-house translator, Dan Kanemitsu. Some people have issues with the translation choices by Kanemitsu, but other than Amanda Winn Lee saying so on Twitter, there isn't anything to suggest that this translation was the one sent by Gainax to ADV in the 90s that was apparently rejected by ADV. Kanemitsu had done other work for both ADV and Gainax around this time so it's possible a similar script might have existed.
Most people I have talked to that actually know Japanese say that this translation is the most accurate (minus a couple missing lines on the BD for Death(true)² and End of Evangelion), but obviously it's up for interpretation (there is an argument to made that the translation might be too literal in my personal opinion, but there has never really been a good translation of EOE before this)
The 2019 VSI/Netflix dub script is based on that translation, and was done by VSI which couldn't have been rejected by ADV or Gainax in the 90s. The 2002 DVD release wasn't done by ADV despite retaining the vast majority of the cast from the ADV Dub, but was done by Manga Entertainment and dubbing studio Gaijin Productions (Amanda Winn Lee's company, who voiced Rei in the ADV Dub)
As a side note, this is cool release
So, as I seem to think, the Netflix sub and dub have the most accurate TL, hence the Netflix dub here is the first English option.
Also, I still don't get how ARC used a lossless ADV dub. Before the release of the latest USBDs, it only existed in lossy AC3.
yeah the netflix subs should be the most accurate definitely. the problem is the translator was forced to or decided to translate some things in extremely bizarre ways. but if you fixed this stuff up and edited it, the subs should still be better than the older official subs.
Completely justified why you wouldn't include the Japanese 2.0 track, but I do want to say that the Original 2.0 Mix and the later 5.1 Renewal Mix are **not** identical. To be fair, there aren't many differences in EOE especially compared to some of the TV Series, but every episode & film in the original series has had additional lines added for the 5.1 Japanese Mix, although this is mostly background stuff (the only returning cast member was Megumi Hayashibara, although she is not re-dubbing any lines for Rei here). Some dialogue, music, and sound effects were remapped compared to the original mix (this can be best seen in EP01 and the final scene in EP16, although effects every episode). This is why the new Blu-Rays include 2 separate English subtitle tracks for the "Original" and "Renewal" mixes.
tldr: this series is an actual mess
The Sephirotic script (default track) is definitely the way to go here – best translation (out of the 3 tracks here, and comparing the Netflix subs too) hands down.
