Wait, so we took an old lossy codec track and transcoded it to a different equally-old lossy codec? Wouldn't it have made more sense to use EAC3 so we're getting a more modern codec and variable bitrate, or just using FLAC if you're worried about quality?

You are also wrong on the following: E-AC-3 does not support variable bitrate E-AC-3 is basically just a bandaid on AC-3, with very little benefits over AC-3 from an up-to-date encoder, at least at bitrates <= 640k E-AC-3 is barely modern, introduced in the early 2000s (it was part of the HD-DVD spec for gods sake), but... age of the codec matters less than how well it's designed, FLAC and AAC are also quite dated at this point and still hold up well despite the same age, AC-3 is more efficient and requires less bitrate for the same quality than DTS While I agree lossless would be preferable, as encoding it as FLAC (or TrueHD if you're more worried about compatibility) would have probably resulted in a minimally bigger file (~1100k?) and no quality loss, I can't imagine the loss here is noticable.

This should've been encoded similar to the Howl's Moving Castle Cinema DTS release. The dub is in DTS-ES 6.1, so the dub should be encoded as DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-ES, like with Howl. It's a DTS-ES 6.1 track, not a standard 5.1 one.
