This is a release of the Monogatari series, except all of the episodes have been turned into movies, one for each arc or LN. To be clear, although some Monogatari arcs have aired as proper movies (Zoku), or at least as "one big chunk" on TV (Neko Black, Hana) these are all unofficial recuts.
"But why," you ask? Zoku Owarimonogatari aired in theaters before releasing as six episodes on Blu-Ray, so in 2019 I thought it would be cool to try to replicate that viewing experience. Once I succeeded, I realized that I liked watching the movie more than I liked watching the original episodes. Recutting the Second Season arcs in 2021-2022 confirmed to me that my personal preference was to watch Monogatari in this format.
I wanted an excuse to make new encodes, so I went ahead and recut the whole series. I won't bore you with the details, but the editing in these movies is fairly sophisticated on a technical level and hopefully just as sophisticated on an aesthetic level. The episodes were adapted to the new format, not just blindly pasted together. (Though blind pasting works *great* for the post-Nise arcs because of the constant titlecards.)
The video files for Bakemonogatari here don't exactly feel like theatrical movies, which makes sense, since the way those stories were originally published doesn't really lend itself to a "one movie per LN" rule. Still, the way the material is presented, with the Hanekawa parts of Tsubasa Cat shown all in one go and the [spoiler] with Senjougahara only coming afterwards, is at least somewhat interesting.
