The Psycho-Pass movie is pretty good, but it has a lot of bad Engrish. This release substitutes the Funimation English dub for the Engrish in this film.
A short comparison will suffice to show the idea behind the release: <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-opFPcRNY0>
There are a lot of characters in the film whose native--and only--language is canonically English. Those characters _always_ speak English in this release. This creates situations where Akane will be having a conversation in Japanese with someone who is speaking in English, with the inference that Akane is using a translator. Blame Urobuchi.
Speech by Japanese characters was never replaced by the dub. Except for the opening monologue, maybe. I dunno who's speaking in that.
After making this, I can't imagine watching the movie any other way. I'm happy with how this turned out.
**Video**: CBM's encode of the Japanese BD. 8-bit 1080p.
**Audio**: A splice of the stereo mix from the JP BD and the audio from the English BD. AAC 384kbps.
**Subs**: Retail, timed, edited to make some fucking sense. The font has been changed for consistency with Commie's season 1 release.
If there are any technical problems with this release, please tell me.
Dope thanks for this -- if someone hasn't already done it, I think having something similar to Zankyou No Terror would be awesome. Not that it'll fix the flaws of the writing, but at least it'll make it less embarrassing to watch.
The woman at 32:19 speaks Vietnamese (giup toi voi) in the original, and in my opinion, it's pretty passable. Even though the official language of SEAUn is English, I imagine most of the locals would only know the languages spoken in their respective nations. It makes more sense canonically if the woman speaks Vietnamese, particularly the part where Nicholas tells Akane to ignore her. I'm pretty sure there's Cambodian and Thai in the original as well, but I can't personally attest to their quality because I'm not a native speaker of those languages.
The opening monologue is the english voices of Kogami and I think Shogo Makishima. I don't really mind it since they are both great, but for consistency on this version they should be Japanese
Is it just me or does this have no activity on it? Im pulling 1KB on this but several MB on other torrents.
I did get 900MB relatively fast, but after that the speed tanked. Like 1 person is sharing at a good speed, but that person hasnt downloaded all of it.
Beyond late to this, but I watched the YT video and am now downloading as I type. Your idea is very novel and I haven't seen the movie itself yet, so I can only imagine it will enhance the experience.
Great work. If there's one thing I hate about anime, it's when egregiously terrible Engrish sucks me right out of whatever is going on. And this looks seemless in comparison. Steins;Gate might be the only exception to that, since it fits the mood of the series well; absurd, and at times very comedic... Nothing like the show we have here. Thanks for letting me dodge that shit!
Now I dont know why its called BD when it contains - "Audio: A splice of the stereo mix from the JP BD and the audio from the English BD. AAC 384kbps." The original should have original per my personal opinion, still trying to find the original ver with good quality video and sub.
